Engine swap completed - now no clutch

Blimey! Never seen one do that before. Wish I could remember what way around I fitted my new clutch.
My old clutch didn't have the same spring assembly bit as the new one so I guess they do vary over time and between manufacturer.

If it won't fit that way around you haven't got any choice really. Personally I'd buy a new one considering the damage. The added benefit is the new one should be marked 'top' on one side to avoid any confusion.

I'd buy a new friction plate if I were you, and make sure you replace the damaged flywheel fixing bolts too.

Used to say 'flywheel side' on pressure plates - no sign of any such marking ? I can't get the picture to work!

Please excuse Grandma and sucking eggs comment but! Please put some new flywheel bolts on before you refit the clutch.

Nah - these bolts will be fine! They've hardly been touched. But - what's caused all this - if you simply hold the plate down on the flywheel - does it touch the bolts both ways round ? It's all very strange. Are you sure it's the correct plate ? I'll have a look at my spare one later on and compare with these pics.

To be honest, the damage to the flywheel bolts looks a lot worse than it is. They're shiny, but hasn't actually taken any meet of them, worn down the clutch plate instead.

The clutch plate didn't have any identification to say which way should face/face out from the flywheel. Knowing as I now do that it was the wrong way round, I can see that it was (even though description wise I followed Haynes). Have bought a new clutch kit, and the clutch plate is very different, even though both are Borg & Beck.

I did fit the old plate up to the fly wheel, and there is a slight intereference fitted the wrong way, and none the right. Unfortunately this being my first clutch, I went with what Haynes said in the abscence of there being anything on the plate (lesson learned).

So, new clutch/pressure plate is now fitted. Gearbox will go back on tonight/tomorrow and (fingers crossed) all will be working by tomorrow night. Could do without spending another weekend working on it.

All fun and games.

I had to take my engine out 3 times due to me cocking up 1275 clutch combinations and fitting a dodgy flywheel.

You get really fed up and just want to walk away and buy a Focus.

Was glad I stuck at it though.

Sorted

New clutch is in (the right way round this time), and all is working well with my new engine/box.

Thanks for all the help over the last couple of weeks. Hope I don't have to have the gearbox off again for a long time.

Did forget to put the prop shaft in before trying to fill with oil though. Biiiiig puddle if oil on the garage floor. Ooops

You must be an absolute whizz at changing gearboxes now !! Hope that's all the problems behind you now.
