Sorry to hear of your probs; Roger :-? it's so annoying when little things like that go wrong and delay a job, after all the effort...
I think the block would fit in a domestic dishwaher
I took the dishwasher to the engine.. daughters come in handy sometimes
Seriously though, I do my engine in situ, although as you say it's a lot more work & time, but I like a spotless engine

I ran the engine briefly today only 10 seconds because I haven't got any water in it yet. I just wanted to hear the engine run before I put the rad. etc on. The oil light went straight out ( I primed the oil pump with Vaseline) and the ignition light went out as well so I think the dynamo and regulator are ok.
Tomorrow I’ll finish off fitting the prop shaft and clutch linkage and then fit the radiator horn etc.

It’s funny, but it’s the first time its had an engine running for 18 years and it makes the little car live.

It sounded lovely :P

P.S. any one spot the American Imported part that arrived today?

Yup! The same as I've bought - the thermostat housing/top hose connection thingy. Better angle for the hose on a 1275, which is why I've bought them.

I hope mine arrive soon...

Puts my engine bay to shame! Where did you get the air filter cover from?

Just a quick update and two more pics.
At last things are going together. Now I can make a start on the final rebuild before the respray.

One bit of bad new there is a oil leak at the back of the sump. I guess its the crank shaft seal arrangement. Oh well such is life. I think it will have to wait until I can afford a rear oil seal kit.

Louise it looks like a K & N cone air filter unit.

Certainly looks good Roger, and its all coming together in time for the Rally season :D.
I see you didnt bother with plumbing in the heated inlet manifold, any particular reason ? as it does seem to be one of those 6 of one 6 of the other type of opinions.

I don't think it is; K&N's elements are red and corrugated. This is what the one I bought looks like:

I thought I'd see how it went with the dry manifold. Keeping the inlet air as cool as possible and therefore most dense. I have some spare hose if I decide to plumb it in later.

The air filter came with the carb. I can't quite read the logo it's some sort of K&N look-a-like. Sounds good!!

Looks very nice Roger  I'm surprised that you didn't strip & polish the radiator top I think it would have really finished the engine bay, I know some people don't like it and obviously it's personal choice, but it do's look beautiful as is...
Is that air filter one of the washable foam one's ??

Maybe its a Pipercross one then and I am sure there are other versions around.

Well done Kevin! I understand now - the logo is a "P" and a "cross" I've just checked their web site it is a pipercross air filter. You learn something every day. The question is "is that good?"

RogerRust wrote:What do you make of this number on the left hand side of the bulkhead?

I noticed it when I got back to bare metal. I took the picture lit from the side with a small torch to reveal the otherwise invisible number 874875.

Say- where did you find the new pull knobs for the interior? I've been looking for a set and found none...

I cleaned up the ones that I had.
There were a set on ebay last week the guy had two sets so perhaps they will go back on.

I've just found this set for $10 thats will only be about £6 I shoould snap them up if I were you. I've ordered a few bits from the USA lately with the strong pound it makes for good value.
