Not AFAIK. Stupid obsevation, but it caught me out once - are you sure that the old one is out and the 'channel' for it is clear? They can be hard to spot when they're compressed and blackened.

hiya mate ,all clear, this leyland block is the problem, when offered up the sump hits crank area ,metal to metal, tried witout seals, and leaves a 12mm gap each side, if i had 12mm thick card gaskets ,ok, steve

Steve, I may be wrong but, from memory, those cork strips are far too high
in the grooves suggesting that it is not a Minor 1098 sump. I mean that the
grooves appear too shallow. The ends of the cork should be trimmed to
protrude about 3mm before refitting. For the record a new cork should be
15cm long, 9mm wide and 6mm thick. Forgive the question but are you sure
that the sump isn't hitting the oil pick-up assembly?

Yes, but is the oil pick up filter assembly hitting the sump floor or the baffle
plate? Oh, just seen that , if it rocks front to rear then what is it pivoting on?

What a bummer! seems your only way is to check against unmodified sumps
as per your 'wanted' ad, unfortunately I haven't a spare.
