No, the problem is that crossplies DON'T roll! So they don't 'give' to match the profile of the road under cornering they effectively lift a lot more than a radial and so loose grip. Radials have softer sidewalls to allow the 'bending' of the tyre to match the road surface better. This is why they look podgy too compared with crossplies!

Well external push power as the engine is seized at the moment, hence the zero horse power!

Mind you if it was 2ft across and had to have its own special holder under the drivers seat I might be alright.

Actually I've just thought of a whole new series of accidents. If the keyhole was at the front, like the starting handle, Imagine winding your car up if it's still in gear! Lots of people running themselves over.

easy peasy - although the problem with big holes underneath is that it makes it easier to see the holes in the headlining...

Well, most cars on crossplies aren't used every day nowadays. My '52 will only be used for shows and the odd tootle out so I expect the crossplies to last for ages. If I was using it every day then I'd probably put radials on. Not many people use sidevalve Minors as their every day transport. I only know of two such crazy people. Mike even tows trailers with his!
