Hmmm... that's the kind of help I can do without!!!
But if you happen to be passing any rallies, then I could use some numbers!

Well, I don't think it's quite to that level yet, unless of course you were talking about an ice cream.

Hi Cam,
in my car there are two plates on the right side of the engine bay, looking from the front. The first has: Z(?)20736 and 190118. The second: BME 188261.
My car is a two doors one. It was manifactured on March 27 1957.
Maybe you can give a little help to me. I have two 948 engines. Numbers are: 8G10 RM48687 and 9D-U-H 111682. Can you please tell me something about the weird first one? Besides that on the valve cover these is a Weslake plate, why?
Thanks.
Luca

Hi Luca thanks for the number info, but I could do with the chassis number too (for comparrison). If you could PM me with it I would be grateful.
Your engine number beginning with 8G is a reconditioned unit. Difficult to tell the cc as I think both 948 and 1098 reconditioned units used the 8G prefix. Weslake is on a lot of the engine plates and I think it referrs to certain patents for the engine.

BTW Cam, when I've taken off the one on Hebe I'll tell you what it says. It's a bit faded so I need to de-mystify it first!

While we're on the subject do you know if it's possible to get replacement plates for the body numbers?
I've seen the other type of VIN plates but never these ones and I'd like to keep it on Hebe (but of course in a better state)...

Never seen the little body number plates, but you can get the VIN plates. All types I think.

Cam,
I feel like Sherlock Holmes I've been in the garage for an hour trying to read the plate welded to the body next to the front bumper mount. Not much good I'm afraid, then I looked at the printed plate near the fuse box still no extra information. Then, bingo, I took the long thin plate off that is mounted on the bulkhead near the petrol pump and cleaned off 10 layers of paint with paint stripper and .............. please see PM for number!

Thanks Roger. Much obliged.

Are you gonna bring it to the
website rally though? (Then i dont need to bother grubbing around now

)
When's the national? I've never been to that.
And yet another question - whatever's happened to Chris Morley?

I've lost him somehow, can't find him anywhere! Do you know if
he's coming to the website rally? I want to pinch some blue cards off him ;-)
