It's your risk - you can do whatever you wish. I can't tell you to do that - then the Xmember crumbles and the car falls on you.... It's too far forward anyway - surely?

If the engine is in place, you can jack up from the crossmember, but also put a support at the back otherwise it can rock on the x-mbr.

Yes will do it no problems. As said above please put wheels and tyres under the car. Could save your life and will make the car more stable.

Good so decking board supported with axle stands and I'll use the trolley jack as well and maybe buy some big bricks and build some supports as I only have four tyres

Bricks or most concrete blocks are inapprpriate because they can crush - whereas timber supports will not fail suddenly. Think here old coal mine supports for instance.
