Hmmm - bad luck Tilly and I'm sorry to hear of your dad's health problems. :(

Thankfully you've inherited a car with excellent spares availability... The catch should have prevented the bonnet lifting up, but it was either set incorrectly or (more likely I guess) it was old & it snapped. ESM can provide a replacement catch and a new bonnet grab handle as well. Unfortunately being a weekend they may not be arrange delivery of the parts until Tuesday - call them on Saturday morning (01580 200203) to find out. Also ask ESM for the cheap rubber gaskets which fit under the hinges plus a copy of their free parts list.

I hope the dings can be knocked out easily - if the bonnet's not twisted then you've been really lucky. It's quite easy to source cheap replacement (second hand) bonnets but repainting one would cost a bit.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck Tilly, as Chris has said the bonnet should not really have popped up like that as normally if its only on the first stage of the latch it will still hold it but normally you would see the bonnet quiver or twitch so maybe the catch has gone and for the bonnet hinges to break it must have come up with some force, quite a hairaising thing to happen and I have not heard of the bonnet coming off before, if you are unsure on how to proceed maybee someone on here may have a local contact for you or the local branch, good luck.
