Re: some things gone wrong!!!
Madness! I've given away FREE Mini 998 heads (and in one case a complete engine) - exactly the same spec (valve sizes etc) as the 948 head, and supposedly 'unleaded' if from a mid 80's engine. Although there is much doubt about exactly how it was 'unleaded'. Certainly the valves are better spec.... perhaps that's all...

Re: some things gone wrong!!!
Well I saw one for £40 and another for £29, that's what prompted me to tell you.

Hi
Yes seen them in the end, I have taken my head in this morning. Had skim ( only to make face true) crack test, new valves and unleaded seats £150 . Looks like I will be keeping this head for a while
I do lots of 60mph motorway driving every day so will benefit in the long run. So will be fitting it Saturday morning
It's a quick fix so that will do me for now.

And this time - set the valve gaps to 12 thou inlet and 15 thou exhaust - retorque (44 ftlbf) the head after the first heat cycle , and then reset the gaps of course - and CHECK THEM every 3000 miles !!
This head would have been fine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini- ... 19e5c690af although expensive postage (and ignore the crazy buynow price..)

Re: some things gone wrong!!!
I will check them religiously this time. I had to have four new exhaust valves, two was burned out. But they did say they were very thin ( worn) The buy it now price of£220 is a little steep
Can't wait to get my car up and running again! Been nearly a week now
Thanks

I am in the process of doing the head gasket on mine - thanks to the advice of BMC (who was spot on with the diagnosis!) Mog has now been off the road for 4 days, what has amazed me is how much I miss driving her when I can't.
I guess it is a case of you don't know what you have until it is gone! Or in the case temporarily unavailable!
Good luck with the refit, we will probably both be turning wheels at the same time!
