AlexanderMclaren;............I couldn't have put that better. A dog is always there for you no matter what. It will lay down it's life for you if necessary, and it's trust and love is unconditional. To me, a home isn't really a true home without one.
I'm not getting into this debate as I appreciate that perhaps there are times and places when perhaps dogs are better off not being there, but we ahould all be aware of what DOG spells backwards!!!
Just don't be sick in my Traveller when it's finished!!

Hi all,
just to clear something up - we didn't know that there would be a 'no dogs' policy on the rally field until the weekend a few weeks ago, when the rally team went down for a site inspection. They only informed us on the Saturday, prior to our wander around the field the following day. It most certainly isn't true that we're 'anti-dog', I have my own pooch that I've now had to sort alternative arrangements for, as do two other people who are part of the rally team! I can fully understand the disappointment of the posters here, and it is just as disappointing for us, but I hope that you'll all now realise it certainly wasn't something that was deliberately chosen. Just to put the final nail in that coffin, we actually had a dog display team booked, that have obviously had to be cancelled

. Its obviously far too late in the day to look at alternatives, but you can be sure that lessons are always being learned and I've no doubt that for future reference this will be a question that is asked very early in the planning process!
I'm not going to get on a soapbox about the organising of the rally, but its safe to say that it certainly isn't a 'walk in the park' - no pun intended

. The setup team are on site several days before the event, putting up marquees, placing the loo blocks, laying out miles of tape and poles, etc etc. The team will be there on Wednesday morning, having given up several days work to set things up for everyone for the weekend, and just for clarification we don't get any payment or discount of rally fees etc. and that's to say nothing of the work that goes in beforehand.
Earlier in this thread someone suggested a 'dog creche' which I think is an absolutely fabulous idea. Obviously there would need to be some constraints about doggy behaviour and compatibility etc. but I'm sure there are dogs who would otherwise be coming who are good enough with other canines that it would be useful. I'm happy to set aside and mark out an area for this alongside the camping field, but in terms of manning it we simply don't have enough bodies. On that note, if there are people available to help us over the weekend then we'd love to hear from you!

As I said in an earlier post I think the doggy creche idea is fantastic. I'd be more than happy to offer half a day of mine and Jo's time over the weekend to supervise. Might be able to help out with extra resource from the FJ team.
Just to be boring, I suspect you're going to need to offer some sort of risk assessment to your events insurer. They're going to want an outline of how it's going to work, whether the dogs are all going to put together or seperated, whether they're going to be in a kennel, on a lead or just roaming in an enclosure. There's lots of liability issues to consider. What happens if two dogs start fighting and someone gets bitten? What happens if one dog impregnates another? What happens if a dog runs away and gets lost? etc etc.
Great idea, but it will need further thought. Anyone got any ideas?

Your new nickname is Mrs Slocombe
Last year I tried to bring my Minor into the main arena at Crufts and they said it wasn't allowed in but could stay in the furthest car parking area, K9. I think it's absolutely terrierble of the organisers of Crufts to have not considered us Minor owners when planning their event. I tried to discuss with the main event organiser but she just got all hot under the collie when I explained how my Minor was:
a) an old dog but I gave it a service and a new leash of life and
b) been with me for 25 years and therefore part of my family and more important than humans.
The pug-nacious lady gave an unjustified whinge about how hard they had worked to put the event together and had overlooked the fact that the owners of the arena were concerned that Minors might scare the shi-tzus out of the ring. Dachsund nice thing to say I retorted. Setter nice example to the children why don't you? I never had this Hounding at the Korean festival of Catering and

I think that's totally unjustified, if you bother to read the earlier post from 'theminorsite' you will find that it was something very unexpected that caught the organisers out this year.
Everybody is welcome!
It's just that unfortunately your dog can't enter the rally field this year.
If you choose not to come simply because you won't / can't make alternative arrangements for your dog and / or you don't want to leave it on the camp site, then that is your choice, no one has said you can't come.

Ive read one of the previous comments' from 'theminorsite' , and now realise that it isnt your fault. It cant be helped, and sorry if my previous comments were heavy handed, but sometimes when im a bit passionate about something (opinionated), i can come across a bit severe.
