your probably right bmcecosse. checked again and it is on first press firm almost half way down, then 3/4 down after that all the time - no springyness. will tighten up brakes a little at the weekend and make sure Marky that these is still half an inch of free play or so, then hopefully itll be okay.

You are quite right to worry - brakes are important. But these are not modern cars and there are some compromises - a long pedal being one of them - but of course the brakes MUST still work at the first press........

lol of course. ill need to get it off the drive and then leave it and then test it when i suspect the pedal will be long

Well took your advice bmcecosse, and the brakes are now fine. tightened the screws in the adjusters up a bit and all seemed fine today round the block. thanks so much :) x

Good luck! They may bed in quite quickly - needing some re-adjustment.
