Don't suppose you know a code for these? I need to replace my offside bearing and don't want to end up with the dreaded 'C3' bearings!

There was a ref number for them recently in a thread....but frankly - it shouldn't be necessary. I have never had to renew front wheel bearings...

Unfortunately I do need to renew one of mine - it has the demon wobble!
Does anyone know if the bearing is the same as a midget, as I found one in my spares. It seems so according to this

Spridget bearings are the same.

i replaced my bushes .and steering rack and got rid of the juddering under braking .

Of course it did!

Yeah I've replaced my bushes too and it didn't so is life and every car is different, though seems if you don't conform to some people's way of thinking you get constant sarcasm.

Nope still no joy although glad I replaced the bearings anyway as they were shot...Found the only remaining (very dodgy) rubber bush on one of the lower suspension arms and replaced that but still no joy.
So the car is now fully poly bushed, all suspension nuts and bolts re-checked, new shoes and drums, trunions checked and all lovely there. Steering rack all tight no play there, dampers checked and all bolts tight and the dampers seem nice and fluid in action.
Still waiting for a friend to put my new drums on his lathe to check for run out so will see the result of that....other than that I am stumped.

Take it to an mot centre and ask them to put it on the rollers,it will show where the fault is coming from,front/rear /left or right.Then you know where to look,but bet its dodgey drums/shoes.

I had my brake drums replaced this January, and I am happy I had it done in a garage. They checked the brand new brake drums first, only to find out they were slightly oval! The garage still has a lathe to turn them, which they did, and I can be sure they are perfectly round now.

As your judder only happens when you are braking, I would try to have the drums turned.

I hope you'll find the cause of your problem soon.

Have you tried to have a passenger in the car when this happens.
Trying to detect this problem they could keep a foot on the floor near the steering rack bolts on the nearside,they may feel something different from what you get.
There could be a possible crack or break on the steering rack holding points.
As you have tried almost everything.
Then you should check everything starting from removing the steering wheel then following every nut,bush,rods,body,bolts etc: all the way to the break system.

This problem has got to be hard to detect, wish I knew what it is.

No need for lathe - clean the faces and put the drums on backwards.... Then check the run-out using a simple probe held in a solid base of some sort - or a Dial Gauge if you have access to one.

Under braking , could be the anti judder bar and bushes on the engine or the mountings thereof (anti judder and engine mounts ) are loose or worn.

Is the gearbox and propshaft bushes correct and tightened correctly ? Is the gearbox anti judder wire in place and correctly tensioned ? Gearbox mounting bushes OK?

How much tension should the steady wire on the gearbox be under I never thought that would cause it to be honest. I will take a look tomorrow. Also I will try the reversing the drums trick and a dial gauge see if there is ovality.

The tension wire should NOT be under any tension - just 'not quite' tight. The engine steady won't have any affect on braking judder.

i have the exact same problem , put on new drums and shoes and worse than ever. There are high spots showing on the shoes so i sandpapered them as smooth as i could and it seems a bit better . Im not getting it at higher speeds generaly about 20 / 25mph . Like yourself im running out of ideas

To try and prove if it is brake related try depressing the the pedal until the shoes just start to touch the drum, then gently depress the pedal to get the brakes to work. From this test you may be able "feel" if the judder is brake related or not.

If the drums are slightly oval it may show up from the "feel" of the pedal.

Obviously you would need a clear road or carpark to try this.
