I wish I had been there

The old commercial (the light blue one in the middle of the 5) appears to be a mid 20's T Type - just like I used to drive at uni!

Some great photos. Dont suppose anyone has some pictures of the modified igoldish coloured minor, with the brown and cream leather interior, and the really well done wooden dash?

Yeah, I found that car diesal Minor interesting. Apparently he gets 50 mpg out of it.

Though I cant help but feel that it is no longer a Minor. I mean, when a car has been changed such to the extent of this one, surely it is in longer the same car? The only thing that is similar is the appearence. But then one could argue that a vw beetle is similar in shape etc to the Minor, yet you would hardly call them the same.

Now would that be the vw beetle which is rear engined & rear wheel drive or the vw beetle that is front engined & front wheel drive, or maybe the front engined front wheel drive diesel vw beetle?
History, Sir Alec Issigonis designed the Morris minor, If BMC had put up the money the morris minor would have been front wheel drive and if the car had stayed in production through the "fasionable diesel era" undoubtedly there would have been a diesel version too, it was purely finances or lack of which dictated the form of the moggy despite Sir Alec's intention and he built two prototypes, one with a flat four engine which was awful and one with a mini style transverse front wheel drive using the A series, that one worked very well and a chief mechanic at the plant ran it for some time himself. So the diesel front wheel drive car would have got Sir Alec's approval and is how all moggys should have been, maybe :D

I would call it a Morris bodied peugot!

There is more to a Minor than it's looks, it is also about the original driving experience which in my opinion is the best bit and that is what is lost with this type of "mechanical modification" and having seen the car it is not even that well put together which does not help the argument! that said I have seen some fantastic mechanically modified minors , but again no different in essence just put together better but have all lost the heart and soul of the original car in my opinion!

I was very impressed by the turnout of modified cars, the work that goes into them is amazing,a lot of them would have been scrapped if the current owners hadn`t rescued them and modified them to their personal taste, they may not be to everybodys taste but then neither does everyone like spending hours polishing the inside of their exhaust pipes, just to win a cup  There is room for allsorts of Morris Minors in the club if it is to continue into the future!

The diesel car was rescued, it had it's roof stoved in by kids jumping on it, floor was rusted out, no engine or box, most of the running gear had been stripped and it was growing in the grass, as for build quality, take a look at the stage photos, it's built like a tank and will out last time itself, if you hit a volvo with it the volvo would lose. here are the build photos http://morrisminorowners.co.uk/about485 ... highlight=

I have looked at the link and stand by my previous comment regarding it's build quality.
