i will try and dig out the mgf studs later today and measure up things .. i still have the rear hubs to do.. and come back with size and spline counts information to see if i paid a bit too much for my piece of mind..

Ahh - not sure about that - tha later cars went up to 16" wheels, so probably had a different spare. But most I think have 14" spare with 175 x 65 x14 tyre.

so to get this straight, can you do a straight swap for mgf wheel studs on a marina hub? to get larger diameter nuts

Montego/rover 400 ones are a straight swap,MGF i'm not shure.

seems like the Montego is a bit rare in the scrappy these days though, will have to keep an eye out for a montego or hope someone on here finds out if mgf are the same.

Try Midland wheel supplies.They do all sorts of wheel studs and nuts for any car.

Gas also suggested the rover 400.. which might be in more plentiful supply in a scrap yard..
the mgf ones i purchased were advertised as metro \ mgf .. sorry did not get around to looking in the garage too busy painting doors in the house!

oh i though i read earlier that montego wheel studs and rover 400 nuts, if the rover 400 studs fit the marina hubs this would definatly be a good upgrade, can anyone conf this setup?

ive pm callyspoy to see if he had any joy with fitting the mgf studs but he aint be online yet, seems like he had the problem of sourcing montego studs, i take it any montego will do the job if i do find one, i remember a montego diesel old bt van down the scrap last time i was there, this any good as it seemed to have the front hubs still on

sorry miss read the earlier comment from GAS i think you are right you need the montego studs and the 400 nuts.. but if the 400 nuts fit the montego studs might be worth trying a 400 stud?
i am going to pop in the garage now and see if i can find the studs etc..

i have been to my garage..
the ital stud (on the right ) has, on the splined section, a diameter of 12.22 mm and has about 48 splines ( trouble is very rusted on mine so difficult to count )
the MGF stud ( on the left ) has, on the splined section, a diameter of 13.22 mm and has 43 splines.
so i think i was right to get my front hubs machined to be on the safe side..

Doesn't 'look' any wider in that picture! And they both 'scale' to exactly the same size - assuming the camera was square on to both studs ?

Hi All, I have fitted MGF studs to the Marina hubs without any problems so far anyway? I bought them from Midland Wheel Supplies and used the same method as GAS to fit them with plenty of lubricant to ease them into place. They seem a very good fit. MWS also supply the correct nuts for the MGF wheels.

did you have a problem with the non threaded section of the stud petruding out from the marina hub thus leaving the nut not reaching full screw on the wheel as the MGF has a more moderen setup of the disc bolting onto the hub from the front.
they seem to be correct size for my application but im using weller steel wheels and even with wheel attached it would not close gap up, may get away with a alloy wheel but would have thought a die would have to be run down the stud to go around this problem if possible

You would certainly need to check the nuts were not bottoming out.

in the pics it seems like they would deffo bottom out, only other way is a 10mm bolt on spacer but thats a bit dodgy if its not centered properly and not haning on the studs

The spacer wouldn't need to be 'bolt on' - just the normal loose spacer - trapped between the wheel and the hub.

The picture is taken square ( as makes no difference) and they do look very similar which is why i measured them.. giving a 1mm difference between the two 12.22mm compared to 13.22mm probably less in reality as the marina stud is very corroded.
If you fit the MGF space savers wheels the nuts do bottom out at least on the front (yet to do the rears)... but you need to fit spacers to the front hubs any way to prevent your tyres hitting the uprights.. so fitting the spacers severs two purposes..
Will let you know about the rears, but i am hoping the drums will "replace" the spacer.
