Ken, don't worry. I went through all this when I 'rescued' my 4-door exactly 10 years ago. The DVLA will (or should) write to the previous registered keeper. If they don't reply then the log book will be sent to you, probably after 4-6 weeks. After a year or so I forgot about the issue of ownership. Any reasonable storage charges will soon outstrip the car's value anyway.Thanks. I'm really pleased too, however, not out of the woods yet. I will update as soon as I hear anything.

One difference since then is SORN. If the previous owner admits to leaving an untaxed car on the road they are admitting an offence and risking a heavy fine. So the chances of them writing back and disputing ownership is very remote. Remember however than being the registered keeper does not in itself confirm ownership.

Hi Chris, thanks for that. I have only written to the DVLA asking for details of the previous recorded keeper. When I hear back from them one way or another, I will then apply to the DVLA for the V5C, if no recorded previous keeper is identified i will enclose a copy of their letter with the V5C application. Hopefully this will make things run a bit smoother/quicker.

Two locks on my garage door, plus one bloke parks his Astra in front of it when I am not there.
The council garage block which I rent is home to a 55 Chevy pick up, my 1500TC (space now taken by the Minor), my 1500SE and a big Riley saloon. Not bad company really.
Oh come on DVLA......... hurry up and respond to my V888, then I can send of for a V5C.
I am itching to make a start on the Minor!!!!

Haha! Just wait till I start restoring her, or if I start restoring her.
Have had a couple of bits and bobs from a previous owner. The car had been a one family car since the last owners grandfather bought the car in 1969. The car has been stolen once in it's lifetime and ended up in East London.
Seems to have been well loved by this particular family. they still have very fond memories of the car.

She did indeed. Liz was very helpful and I sent an email to the lady who used to own the car, just to get whatever history that is available, although this would more than likely be more reminiscent than factual per se. Nice to have anything really.

You are lucky to find previous owners who were interested in the car's fate. When I got the logbook back from the DVLA I sent SAEs to both the previous owners listed on it. I only heard back from one address, the chap living there there told me the previous owner had moved out the year before and had no forwarding address.
In terms of starting work, I would wait until you get the logbook back, just in case.
