What should be regularaly kept in the car, in the form of tools or spares?

And how badly do they rust, and where in particular?
I know they are better than most cars of the era but obviously they still sufer from rot.

Well I keep a full tool box,socket set, oil,water,rags,a trolley jack,mutimeter,points,capacitor,fuel pump,dizzycap,spare tyre, foot pump, axle stand. Suprised it does nearly 40 to the gallon really dragging all that round !

Learn't my lesson second week I had her broke down and all I had was a blunt srewdriver and a stanley knife blade ! so now I leave nothing to chance. (would stick a mig welder in the boot if there was somewhere to plug it in
