Well £40 is the 'going rate' apparently for banding a wheel, and this looks a much more satisfactory option. I'm a few months of getting round to things like this, I've only just finished welding the sills etc..!

I don't know about £40 being the going rate. There was a thread on here a while ago and it cost £300 for 1" band in 4 wheels.

Indeed I believe that was a firm called wide-wheels, theres a chap on retro-rides.org who does them for £40.

We are all waiting to see if your wheels last round the first round-about Ian !! Just joking.
I think it's only fair to say it's quite a lot of work to strip the two wheels - to make one good one from the two parts !

Yeah, about 1 1/2 hours for each wheel.

Do not rule out ebay as a source of wheels, I recently picked up a set of four mondeo wheels for 99p. When i went to pay the guy he said not to worry, he was just grateful to get them out of his shed!

Aye - but they won't fit a Minor unless you are doing as Ian has done - swapping the centres.

This is the colour scheme I am thinking of.

or change the rear axle and front hubs to the ford stud pattern... which is the route i am going, the mondeo just happens to have the correct offset for the rear axle, the front will need spacers

I saw Wanderinstar's new back wheels last weekend and they look pretty good - slightly fatter than standard wheels but it's quite subtle. I'm not so sure about the one with the blue centre though... ;)

No, I'm not sure either. Could do with some sort of software to try different colours on the photo of the wheel on the car. Have seen some OZ Racing alloy wheels in a sort of claret/red and I wonder............
