You need to measure from thr end of the gearbox casing to the front face of the diff flange. If you give the prop manufacturer the details of the gearbox and axle you are using then they will do the maths for you. ie you need aroud 20 mm free travel on the gearbox tail shaft.

Marina diff is APPROXIMATELY 3/8th shorter than the minor from 1/2 shaft center to the propshaft mating face.

I have just gone and measured my diffs ;)

So if the prop I have is 10mm shorter than ideal is there enough spline on the type 9 to compensate?
Also, can I dismantle the rear UJ and remove the rearmost yoke from the + and replace it with a Minor one?

I wouldn't think 10 mm (=3/8") would be significant! the yoke change will depend on the size of the yoke spindles - you would need to compare them for diameter and length.

providing thet're not the staked variety its not difficult to dismantle UJs the needle rollers can go everywhere if not careful though , use lots of grease

Back to this clutch thing ive just noticed that the ford spigot is bigger than the Moggy one. I didn't think about that as I have a moggy box on the Ital engine and will fit the ford one. Do I replace the spigot bearing for a smaller bush???

Is the Ford input shaft long enough to reach the bearing in the crankshaft ? Was there not some discussion a while back about fitting a bearing into the centre of the flywheel?

There are two options, make a deep sleeve to fit the crank or as you say fit one to the flywheel center. I think B'ham do the latter, but it depends on which flywheel you use, ie Ital, Midget or Minor
