How does the the act cover instances like this where people are volunteering the information knowing full well that it's going to be displayed publically ?
I thought the act only applied to data kept electroncially that wasn't normally easilly accessable.
Surely in this instance it would be deemed people are waving any right for their data to be kept private by putting it onto a public forum.
Maybe this is where the secrect lawyers, that keep reminding the moderators that they must watch what people write on the forum to avoid the club being liable, should step forward and clarify the situation :D

This can easilly drift into another over moderatoring type thread.
If you don't know what aspect of the act we are breeching then why not discuss with other moderators and then post a message which give an answer .:(

By highlighting a previous posting I was trying to do exactly that. As I see it MMOC members and non members, by adding their area details to this thread, may be agreeing that this information can be posted, but are they agreeing that this can be added to a map that shows their exact location?

Nope, not at all. As stated previously names will be placed over nearest town or city PLEASE READ THREAD FULLY BEFORE POSTING IN FUTURE!

Oh dear!

Please start a new thread with gripes groans and issues you think you've found as thread hi-jacking is not really appreciated by anyone, this thread has a meaning and a purpose and should not be turned from the original idea such as some people are trying.

Now were over that, back to names and places now peeps!

Hopefully find some time tonight to get the Map started.

Judge, I dont understand what you're trying to say there. If you think there's something 'wrong' with what I'm doing there, please do let me know. I'm well aware of the DPA - working for social services its difficult to avoid it - and I'm reasonably confident that I'm not in breach of any part of it.
Hope that helps

No offence intended but you've obviously not looked at the page first. The map field has been deliberately modified to allow zooming to a particular level only - it is physically impossible, even for me as the moderator of the database, to 'pin' anyone down closer than a radius of a couple of miles - the zoom will not go in any further.

to protect the innocent (Ray),
Wow! I think that's the first time I've been called 'innoccent'

I did however think the same as Judge to start with - the comment of see the moggy on the drive would make people nervous. I went and checked the other moggie map to make sure - You CAN'T identify the exact location of anyone (unless by pure accident).

If this thread is still going and the map idea is still active, then here goes. I think my location is included in my details anyway at the side for all to see normally, and my user name is a big clue to my location too :P

I lied about my location Actually I am within 10 miles of Bedford! that puts me in a area of 314 square miles. Close enough for rock and roll!!

I just put Dudley and as there is around 2.5mill people of voting age in the borough that is about as anonymous as I can be :P

I'm just not that bothered - anyone who knows my last name and which county I live in can find my address with about 5 clicks on tinternet, but anyone who doesn't can just ask!
Tea/coffee milk and sugar is readily provided for anyone with the time to talk about Minors, Land Rovers, Trabants, and/or silly road trips.

[e.g. Wanderingstar - nice to see you the other day! Glad you found somewhere to park the HGV]

For people who don't want to be identified on a map -just don't submit your info to be included on the map.
