Hi Bill,

Put me down as a possible, but I have a feeling that it might be the week/end of my best mate's wedding so I'll need to check that.

You guys make me real jealous!! I have plenty of mogs but cannot join (being too far away!!!),

What I can offer is... if someone needs an experienced morris driver, or has two cars and cannot dive them both...I'm ready to come over and grasp the task...all fuel expenses paid by me....

Darn - you mean I need to find a new co-driver?? ;-)

Hmm - Bill, Can't remember if I sent you my thoughts but 3 days to do a 1 day journey :-? Fortunately it stays light later in north scotland at that time of year.
If I'm there for the 'off' on Thursday, I may stay an extra couple of days in Cornwall and meet you in Orkney ;-)

It's not a race Ray, or a test of endurance (835 miles in a day????), it's supposed to be a leisurely drive and a holiday  But how does everyone else feel?

Currently the list is as follows.

Bill - Definite
Ray - Definite
Andrew - Possible
Roger - Possible
Jon - Possible
Neil - Definite
Jeff - Possible
Cam - Possible

(835 miles in a day????),
as done by young and old - and a fair few board members too, on the JOGLE.
It was only made hard by the late start time and doing it the wrong way (it's light in Scotland long after it gets dark in Cornwall).

Yes, but as you say, ".......everybody and his dog has already done Lands End to John O'Groats......", but this is intended to be something different, and some have already requested a 'no rush' run. :D

Having said this, I will of course go along with the majority vote

No excuses, just blatantly bringing it to the top of the pile again

Edit - For those of you seriously considering joining us on this run, I think you should know that in view of the problems with accomodation we have previously encountered in Orkney at show time, we have already booked ours :o

Although I have managed to get a small ad put in the next issue of Minor Matters about this run, I would advise those of you on here that are definitely intending to join us, to be seriously thinking about booking accomodation now, especially on Orkney.

Do you have any more information yet about accommodation, ferry bookings, etc.?

The rough plan is as follows Alex,

Thursday 9th August - Start from Lands End - travel to approx; Stafford (302 miles).
Friday 10th August - Travel to approx Dunblane (303 miles).
Saturday 11th August - Travel to John O'Groats (230 miles) Catch ferry to Orkney www.pentlandferries.co.uk
Sunday 12th August - Visit Rally http://www.orkneycommunities.co.uk/ORKN ... pageid=388

Although everyone will be responsible for their own bookings, accomodation, ferries etc, once I have received PM's from those that definitely will be taking part, I will endeavour to keep everyone together as far as is possible.

Where were you thinking of staying on the way up? Camp sites, youth hostels, B&Bs, Travelodges, five star luxury hotels? Accommodation at the cheaper end of the scale would make the trip more viable for me.

Is the plan to catch the 18:45 ferry from Gill's Bay to St. Margaret's Hope on Saturday, stay two nights on Orkney, then come back on the 08:00 Monday ferry?

The Kirkwall Youth Hostel on Orkney sounds very nice.

I live in Dornoch (north east of Scotland). Can I join you as you're passing? I doubt my little car would survive the entire journey
