Sorry Jonathon,
I thought you were going to sell these brackets. As the price quoted was just for information, would you care to let us all have a bit more information. Namely the firm that would make these brackets for the mentioned figure.
As this would be very helpful for anyone wishing to carry out this conversion.

the bracket handed. Or am I missing something
Most definitely. the clue was earlier....
One leading, the other trailing.
Seriously though, Lalaw are you able to establish if the VW1 caliper works too?
Also, presubably the VW flexihose mates with the brakepipe flare/mounting bracket on the inner wing?

Ian,I'd wait until Pete's contact offer's his estimated price. If we do end up being invited to tender a service then I'll consider it carefully. I'm not willing to offer the name of my supplier.

The brackets are handed.

So how do the 4" PCD Minor studs fit into the 100mm PCD Polo bolt holes? Is it that the larger threads on the Polo bolts require a bigger hole and the smaller studs fit off centre at the furthest point out? If so, is this eccentric stud/disc fixing compromised when the brakes are retarding?

I'd hope that those who are advocating this kit would re drill to 4"PCD and correct centerbore of disc or spacer to take up the centerbore if undersized, also to prove beyond doubt, to anyone wanting to buy either parts of or whole kits that the standard bearings are suitable for the job.The standard minor wheel studs certainly will be the weakest link along with the bearings. Seems an awfull lot of ifs and maybe's when all of the trouble and cost of coming up with a suitable kit, has resulted in several kits being already available in the market place.

The disc fits on the original hub.No problem.

The disc may well fit but the PCD is still incorrect and the original minor studs and bearings are marginal for this application.

I agree with Jonathon - I don't like the idea of metric PCD disc on imperial stud PCD.
If you need to have the centre hole on disc machined to fit Minor hub then why not get the engineering company to redrill to correct PCD at same time ?

I still waiting for Jonathon to introduce his cut down version unvented kit

, which he mentioned.
It actually works out quite expensive, for disk kit, servo and top resivior.
Can someone make a reasnable kit with everything included.

At a glance this polo conversion looks pretty good if you are handy at this type of work. I have gone down a very different type of brake modification wanting vented discs and 4 pot calipers and it is costing me a wee bit more than one of the kits that you can buy off the shelf from a reputable source. (not wanting to mention names, cough jonathan, cough, cough.) I wish that i had simply bought one off the shelf! I have enjoyed the problem sorting of it all but I am now having to spend more money getting a few moer bits machined up as the first engineer was out by only a few mm, but once fitted the discs hit the top trunion!!!!!!
Anyway, i am all for doing it yourself as there is no better way to find things out and alot of the time we can learn loads. I definately think that within the moggy community there is a need for a non-vented disc kit.
cheers, michael.

I'm guessing the larger holes in the disc slip over the slightly off pcd studs ok - the disc being centred by the hub centre. I don't see why the strength of the Minor wheel studs come in to this- they are just doing the same job as before - holding the wheel on. Here they will trap a disc instead of a drum - same difference really. The disc may be slightly thicker than drum - hence slightly longer studs may be required. Do we know yet what work (file or machining) is needed on the disc centres to make them snug over the hub centre?

as i said before, the disc fit perfect. And work fine....

Just a thought re wheelstuds. What do other kits use, because I presume most of them use Minor wheels.

Some use Marina hubs and the ghastly Marina wheels ! Others use Ford parts with different PCD and therefore Ford type wheels - although some then re-drill the hub to 4" PCD to take Minor wheels - presumably as you say Ian - with Minor studs!

Mate has given me a price of £90 for a pair of handed carriers. If anyone wishes to go ahead, please contact Colin on 01382 644520.
Obviously price would decrease with a volume order.

Useful contact there Pete - will keep it in mind. Of course - it now becomes the 'target' for others to improve on ! Would there be vat on top of the £90 ??
naadeslaus - just to confirm it yet again so there are no doubts - I think you are saying that for you the VW disc drops straight on the Minor hub with NO machining - not even some filing - of the centre hole, and the stud holes drop over the Minor 4" pcd studs ok ? Only work is to put in a small screw to secure the disc when the wheel is absent ? Yes ?
