Ok so I've got a knock thats come back, seems to be over bumps, but not always the worst!. It seems as though theres play in the wheel. I have taken the wheel off...everything is nice and tight, including the damper mounts and eyebolt. I can't see any signs of cracking or damage on the suspension components or chassis leg.

If I drive the car at speed, especially about 65mph it feels as though the near side wheel is rattling, the wheel is balanced and this feels much different to a wheel being out of balance. If I jack the wheel up on the supension arm you can feel slight movement in the wheel if you rock it about. Unfortunately I haven't managed to get someone to help me look at the suspension while its being rocked.

Any ideas?

Was the new trunnion genuinely snug tight on the threads of the kingpin ? If so - could be track rod end and/or track rod inner ball & cup. Really needs two - one to wiggle and one to watch.

Think I may have sorted it, one thing I didn't check was the hub securing nut, which alowed some more tightening without any brute force. The wheel is out of balance slightly which is maybe why it felt like it was wobbling. I'm taking the car out tonight so we'll have to see.

As for the track rod end, the ball and cup seem ok but the rubber bushes are very perished. I will probably change them for peace of mind.

The trunion was a very snug fit, despite cleaning the kingpin and trunion then greasing I had to place a long screwdriver where the fulcrum pin is housed to drive it right up. I think it must have been recently replaced and maybe the bottom trunion was faulty or poorly made.....although the roads round here are full of awful potholes.
