I can't really answer either of you until we've pulled it out of the hedge sometime this week.
The back seat is duetone, but I don't know what seat it is in as you can only see the top edge.
Under the bonnet looks reasonable, so we'll see what I can save.

Thanks Brian - I'm restoring a traveller with red duo tone trim at the moment so any bits of trim would be a great help if possible....
Thanks. Rich

More de rusting work, the second leaf spring this time. when I open the door to my workshop and step out into the garden, into the fresh air, take of the masks, ear protection and look back, I can see the dust blowing out. it tends to disperse very quickly. anything larger will produce a lot more rust clouds, So I can't de rust the chassis here. It'll have to be done professionally. for the neighbours sake at least. Having said that, de rusting with a brush like the one in the picture is a curiously satisfying activity.
what is the concensus of opinion, do I try cleaning up this master cylinder, or replace with a new one? (I'd like to at least try to keep it in the project)
I would crack it open and give it a good inspection. At the very very least it will need a new seal set.
If theres any sign of corrosion or wear in the internal bore stick it straight in the bin!

I bet its shot too.
But if the internal bore is perfect and the seals get replaced then whats the problem? to all intents and purposes that would then be a "new" MC albeit not shiny on the outside. Its always worth a look IMHO

if bores are good, but looking at the rest of the linkage and pedals, i doubt it
only one way to find out and that is to strip it down

I think we are kinda singing from the same hymn sheet here. I did say that if there is any wear or corrosion in the bore to ditch it!

Right, thanks fellas, I'll strip it down with the intention of binning if its scored or damaged inside, the cup and spring set replacement are on the must list for this little component.

For the sake of 5 minutes its well worth doing. Even if it is knackered you'll learn a bit about its construction!
