Morris Minor Owners Club

Chris Evans has long been a Minor fan. He was on Top Gear a while back saying how much attention his convertible gets, especially from young ladies! this led to the expected derision from Clarkson who the showed a picture of the car to a young lady in the audience and asked her if she thought it was sexy. Her reply? "Yes thats so cute!" It shut Jeremy up!

The Minor did quite well out of the Lovejoy series a few years ago, that convertible always looked well used.

Judge, its not just Morris Minors, the whole 2nd hand (including classic) car market is very slow at the moment. Porsche 944's are also slow to sell at the moment.

Considering the thread has been running since 8th March,with 230 replies,OK not all completely relevant,Is anyone going to collate the comments and if so where do we go from here to progress/improve and move on to the future of the MMOC

Well although I'm pleased with the MMOC I amalways thinking what will happen in the future? if young people are not attracted to the club, something I would like to mention I am 24 I started my car interest in modern cars but my dad always had a Morris and I always thought what the hell where people in the 50s and 60s designing? but when I saw how good the Minor turned out I started having respect for old cars but it was when I saw a V8 van on StreetMachine that I got hooked!!! and I started reading about Morris Minors and this made me appreciate both bog standard and modified/customised Minors! So somethime modified Minors really help!

Here's a thought for getting younger people interested in the owners club, maybe we could think about slightly more 'trendy' stuff in the regalia section such as MMOC hoodies for example?

Hi I've already considered this for the regalia but would any of you buy them?

what kind of trendy regalia? My idea is for stickers to start with ex. for my metro I got a stcker saying Austin Powered in a nice font used for the Austin Powers film. Also when I was still a kid I remember a Beetle having a sticker Save water, drive a beetle! we can't use those but I think you're getting the idea of what I mean

slightly different I know but I would like to mention a club run by the National Traction Engine Trust called the steam apprentice club of which my 2 boys are members. It is aimed at youngsters from about 5 - 18 years old who are enthusiasts / budding engineers. They have specific steam apprentice days where engine owners give their time and expertise
and encourage both the boys and girls who attend to work on their engines and even drive them. These days are great fun, With knowlege being shared with young and old alike, the behaviour from the youngsters is impeccable and it is wonderful to see the older kids helping the younger ones. Some of them have a workbook which is filled in when they have completed a certain task and eventually they can take an examination. My father in law usually has at least 3 apprentices who regularly help with his engines which is a huge benefit to him as he always "needs sum 'elp" with something! They also have their own quarterly magazine. Sorry this is long winded but my point is that they put a lot of effort into attracting youngsters as they realise these are the people who will keep the trust and the engines going in the future. I dont know if the mmoc have an equivalent type of club as I am a new member.

i agree we need to get young people who are intrested in the cars working on them.could there be something at the national rally,where an experienced person could demonstrate how to do a basic service.i trust health and saftey would be a problem here.im not sure that the hoodie is the sort of image that the club is looking for.i do think that there should be a discount for children under 16,and a discount for students that can prove they are at university or college and have a student card.this seemed to be poo pooed st the agm just drumming up ideas

This is something that I have suggested on a number of occasions, and I beleve that there will be such a demonstration at this years National.
