We have now booked our ferries & most of our accomodation, as below:-
  • Sat 02/8 Bristol-Penzance Penzance YH
Sun 03/8 Lands End-Lea Crab Mill Farm, Lea, Wilts
(15 miles south of Cirencester, near Malmesbury, they take tents)
    Mon 04/8 Lea-Harrogate
    Tue 05/8 Harrogate-Beamish Edmundbyers YH
Wed 06/8 Edmundbyers-Carlisle Carlisle Cent Travelodge
Thu 07/8 Carlisle-Fort William Glen Nevis YH
    Fri 08/8 Fort William-Thurso Waterside B & B Thurso
    Sat 09/8 Thurso-Orkney
    Sun 10/8 Orkney
    Mon 11/8 Orkney 2345 ferry Kirkwall-Aberdeen
    Tue 12/8 Aberdeen-Kendal Kendal YH
    Wed 13/8 Kendal-Bristol
I am about to book a B & B on Orkney & probably the Travelodge in Harrogate as well.
As you can see we are going on the ferry from Kirkwall to Aberdeen on the Monday. This gives us the whole of Monday to explore Orkney, and means we arrive in Aberdeen 200 miles further south at 7am on Tuesday. It's a bit more expensive this way, but taking into account the saving in fuel & wear & tear, and that we would need an overnight stop for the Mon anyway, it's not as much more as you might think.
Anyway, still got plenty of spraying to do. The rancid weather this weekend hasn't helped at all. I managed to get the loading bay finished though, and the fog & reversing lights fitted.
cheers, Neil

I have a bit of an unreasonable dislike for Penzance YH after the parking problems, the grumpy warden who didn't get the concept of a road trip, sharing a room with the World's Loudest Snorer, and worst of all the council blocking the road to it and consequently me ripping my aerial off trying to get back in via an overgrown green lane!

You know there's a YH in Kirkwall?

No, I didn't know about the one in Kirkwall. Anyway I think Mrs E will appreciate a couple of nights away from YH's!

Still no word from Kevin Colley, going to have to let his ferry discount go to someone else I'm afraid :(

Sun 03/8 Lands End-Lea Crab Mill Farm, Lea, Wilts
(15 miles south of Cirencester, near Malmesbury, they take tents)
Mon 04/8 Lea-Harrogate Leeds Travelodge
Tue 05/8 Harrogate-Beamish Edmundbyers YH
Wed 06/8 Edmundbyers-Carlisle Carlisle Cent Travelodge
Thu 07/8 Carlisle-Fort William Glen Nevis YH
Fri 08/8 Fort William-Thurso Waterside B & B Thurso

Just got to get it sprayed now.......

Thanks Neil.

Funny you should be posting about the LEO, I was just sitting here trying to make up my mind about the kind of things people would like to see on Orkney. Any ideas?

I think we have enough planned for the actual run, but if anyone wants to make a contribution now's your last chance.

As I have had no particular requests, I am making arrangements to make two visits on Orkney during the Saturday.

Incidentally, all visits are now being arranged on the basis of the 7 cars/owners confirmed. If you have not yet confirmed please do so asap. Thanks.

Hi All
When are you arriving in the penzance area ?
Would like to meet up again if that's possible, the pub we met at last year has closed down ( hopefully only temporarily ) but I am sure we can find another venue that's convenient.
:D

Hi Steve, really good to hear from you again.

As far as I know, most of us should be in the area on the 2nd August, and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say it would be great to see you and Bridget again.

If you can find another venue it would be greatly appreciated, but remember, it's our turn this year  :D
