Jonathan, you should ALWAYS "chock and block" whenever working with a jacked vehicle...
axle stands are best, but make sure that whatever you use is stable.
handbrake on, in gear and a chock behind/infront of wheel.
good luck & stay safe

Chocking the wheels is essential whenever using a jack, but if you're going to do serious metal work you need to worry more about the car falling on you, than about damaging the car.
For re-bending bodywork with a wheel removed I would look for something big and solid to sit under the car. One easy solution is to make a pile of wheels under the car - this way if it comes off the jack, it has something to land on other than you!

havent got any axle stands or any proper tools here to be honest...
I think i'll collect some from home and some decent tools when i visit home a week on thursday.

I can bring back a trolley jack, some axel stands and some big tin snips to get this wing off.
Any other tools i should bring?
Big pry bar and some dolleys i suppose for that grille!

Just to bring the thread to a conclusion, it irritates me when people dont finnish the story on BBS's

We managed to hammer out most of the dent. The A post was completely rotten so there wasnt much we could do there.
We got the car roadworthy-ish then Will drove it back to coventry.

At this moment in time it has had all welding done and is having a new front vallance, bumper and 2 wings fitted.
Its going to be sprayed up in primer and sealed temporarilly. I think he said that over the summer its getting a complete respray to Black. This should go nicely with the red interior.

So, thanks allot for all your help. Thats another one being kept on the road. :D

Cheers,

Jonathan M.

Yeah - nice one :D
I expect the weldng will turn out to be a bigger job than just the a-post but it'll be worth it when it's done.
