Steve,
not a problem
I actually tracked the battery powered ones down to Maplin (online catalogue) about £7 a go...

Crimping & soldering

Hi all
I think there is a place for soldering as well as crimping.
However, I have seen some pretty appalling soldering come out of so called professional garage services. Soldering is excellent if you use the correct temperature bit and good grade solder.
Could I add that I purchased a bullet crimping tool from Vehicle Wiring Products. This is a professional grade crimper that forms a superb hexagon crimp. Nothing will budge it.
The tool is excellent. I have bought several cheaper ones over the years and wasted my money. This tool will last a lifetime. Already loaned it to other restorers. Cannot praise the tool enough.

I believe there is no substitute for solder, and if you're using a spade connector on an important circuit ie. brake lights, why not crimp it leaving a little wire poking out towards the connecor, clean it and put a dollop of solder on? The most important thing about soldering is not make sure you dont get a dry joint ( the solder is just dryed in place and not actually binded to the surface) and having clean surfaces/iron and solder or you will have a 'slaggy' dollop of solder on your joint.

Of course, my car has consumate timing and an incredible sense of humour. The day after my MOT (praise Morris) the passenger side front indicator stopped working with an earth fault. I've now got an earth wire running back to the same point as the headlamp earth after spending 20 minutes cleaning contact points entirely unsucessfully. So... grrr.

I now have a ratchet crimping tool but it seems that some of my wires are so brittle (the casing that is) that they are breaking at stress points on a regular basis. I think I need to replace some of the wire to fix this.
So what wire do i need to buy? It's the wires that go in and out of the coil and dizzy I am referring to.
Cheers
