to do what? I am either going bonkers, or just plain dumb.
The floor switch is just for the change between dipped and high beam?
Or is it different on modern minors?

onne, yes just to change between dipped and high beam

It's exactly the same, Onne. The only difference is that the early switches have screw connectors and the late ones have lucar connectors. We are talking about the dipswitch aren't we?? You know, the one on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal (and up a bit).

I've just been out and checked, and on all of mine it's on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal, except where I've moved it from on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal to a switch on a metal plate near the steering wheel, 'cos I couldn't get at it with my foot when it was on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal.

I can't find any mention (
http://www.motuk.co.uk) of there needing to be a warning light for the main beam to pass an MOT (although I've had cars fail for a non-working one), and I've also read posts elsewhere from MOT testers who say it's not a testable item too

They probably just couldn't find the switch. I can't seem to recall where it is myself...

Of course, I think on most minors there's a funny little footswitch just to the left and slightly above the clutch switch. You have to tap it when you want to switch between high beam and main beam. (Sorry folks, but someone asked if I wanted to join in!)!
Some minors do have some different lights, especially if they've got a mini-based speedo.
Hebe's got the standard lights, but Carrie hasn't got an oil pressure warning light so in stead has the light used to warn that the fog lights are on
My turn indicator is also on there

I presume Carrie has an oil pressure gauge then?
I still think Carrie is an excellent name for a car! Brill. Wish I had thought of that!

mmmmm this is such a yummy thread.
i think if i was asked to pick one single feature of morris minors which "does it" for me, it would have to be that foot-operated dip switch. It's just blissful. Joy, joy, joy.

I think it's either the noise when reversing or the 'fart' when changing gear for me.

I thought the little metal thingy slightly up and to the left of the clutch was a footrest. No wonder cars flash me at night and I thought all the time that they were being friendly!

Graham,
The dip switch is on the floor, to the left of the clutch pedal. If the lights are 'dipped', pressing the switch puts them on 'Main', or 'Full' or 'High'!! If on 'Main' pressing the switch puts them on 'Dip' or 'Low' or whatever!!
Hope this helps??

What about climbing a really steep hill in first? That wail of first does it for me... so minory.
Or the windscreen wipers, I just love the way mine wipe a variable area of the screen dependant on how damp it is, and the gentle thunk as they hit the screen rubber at the bottom.
Or my mileometer which gets stuck everytime it goes over a big number and sits the going "no, I don't want to get older!"....
Or the whine of the heater? Or on a warm spring day the happiness of finishing a service and knowing that she'll run really sweetly for ages now
Or, what about pulling over to help people who've broken down in their modern cars?
Or the shape? Mmmmmmm. I love minors!

Yours does that too? I hate that. But I do love Wilberforce's bouncy feel-every-bump-journey and the *farting* - just like my beloved (and belated) grandma crossing the kitchen (the grandma not the car), and the way everything in my rear view mirror looks wobbly-edged cos of the vibrations....and his big shiny round behind when i've given him a wash!!
...And the dip-switch, which, I dont mean to be patronising - but its down on the floor, just where your toes go when you stretch your leg out past the left of the clutch pedal...Well it is in Wilberforce anyway....................I dont know about yours?

Yup; always has. I don't mind it though, it's one of her little foybles. It kind of reminds me to switch off the wipers when it's drizzly. Mind you, I'd like my intermittent wiper circuit (maplin jobbie) to be fitted, but that would involve actual effort on my part.

See, I tend to stick mine over the other side of the transmission tunnel if I need a stretch

Kate,

Left or right leg? - or both at once!?
Mind you, since JLH fitted the Saab seats into my Minor, I can stretch in the driver's seat.
All the best for 2006,
Colin

You have had the car since October and not found the dipswitch yet ?
You must eat a lot of carrots !. It is located on the floor above the propshaft tunnel . pressing this will bring your headlight onto Main Beam Full beam , call it what you will and the blue light will light up.

I've just checked mine.
It's definately not on the floor just up from the clutch pedal.
After more searching I've found it's in the black stacker box with the othere leccy bits. Mind you, the clutch pedal is about the only theing still actually fitted to the car!
