I have made such plugs but I make the magnet an interference fit and also apply JB Weld. Never had a problem.

On the subject of temperatures, I drove back home from East Kirkby Airshow yesterday, near 50 miles of A road driving with a couple of miles of 30 limit to get to home.
I immediately sampled engine temperatures with my infrared thermometer, having switched off as soon as I got home so no idling, just about 60 seconds of standing. When the sump had no airflow past it and hot oil from around the engine had a chance to drop down to the sump.

Thermostat Housing - 92 C
Engine Temp Sensor area of the Head - 88 C
Top of the Radiator (at water level, not the air gap) 85 C
Sump - 80 C

So that bears out the numbers Mike has mentioned.

My Traveller is having a recon engine fitted as soon as I get it home I ll put a few neodymium magnets on it. That should keep any particles on it at first oil change and subsequent ones.

Put the magnets on the outside of the filter bowl so as to keep any ferrous particles inside the filter housing which can then be washed out at the next filter change.

you can slso drill a blind hole in the outside of the plug and glue the magnet in.
