I know age of issue is different for England, Wales and Scotland.

AFAIA, the England Senior's Bus Pass, has a national criteria of 09:30 to 23:00.

Some authorities issue cards that provide 'locals only' outside of those hours.
London & Manchester come to mind, plus Scotland which has a 'Scottish National Entitlement Card', which is principally a Bus Card, but also used as proof of Age by younger persons and I believe some Scottish areas use it for local services such as libraries.

England, Wales and Scotland Cards cannot generally be used across borders except for some specific routes.
Which totally undermines the plot of the Timothy Spall 2021 film The Last Bus, the entire plot of which is based on a pensioner taking his wife's ashes from John o' Groats in Scotland to Land's End in England using his free bus pass on local buses, to return to where he and his wife grew up and to scatter her ashes...

Attached are photos of a ration book sent for my Traveller in 1973. I recall they were printed in the 1950s during the Suez crisis but never used. Plus ca change as our French cousins would say!

So, turns out that my Mother just never knew the pass was able to be used with restrictions in other counties, and as she was my sole source of information, I didn't know either until this thread

Most places have the 09:30 start.
My wife's uncle spent a few years as a bus driver in Kent and he used to refer to the Bus Pas wielding pensioners as 'Twirles'.
Because those boarding at approximately 09:30 would ask 'Am I too early?'...

We've had some issues with changes to a local bus where I live, and the altered timetable now has the bus arriving at something like 09:28.
The bus company have agreed with the County Council (who subsidise the route) that Bus Passes can still be used for that route at that time.

It would be nice to have an actual bus service.
A car is essential where I live in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

We have no bus service, it was cancelled 8 years ago.
Our village bus shelter is now community book exchange.
5 mile walk to a railway station, so a car is essential.
