Thanks so much! If I don’t get any joy with PeterJames I’ll try these guys too and Adrian Flux. Not ready to give up!

UPDATE: PeterJames have saved the day! They were willing to take my personal circumstances into account and have offered me a very good quote. I cannot recommend these guys enough!

Good to hear everything worked out for you. I've switched to PeterJames myself - many things included in the base price that were paid extras for my current insurer and a fair bit cheaper too.

Yes agreed. I've switched to PJ too. It's cheaper than my renewal with Adrian Flux and it includes as standard unlimited mileage and European cover which is handy for Minors on Tour (Normandy 2026). Other benefits as well like tools cover. MMOC have negotiated a fantastic package.

Thanks all, I’m so pleased! Still striving to get my test done asap but at least if the car does happen to come along first… insurance won’t stop me from going ahead!
Unfortunately I won’t be able to take a test in a moggy - I just asked the DVSA… but at least if the car does come before the test I’ll have something to practice in!

I didn't get unlimited mileage, probably because adding a second vehicle changed the benefits (for example one vehicle should get a No Claims Bonus but I was told my policy wouldn't get one- but that's not an issue for me anyway).

I’ll be on limited millage until I’ve held my manual licence for at least 12 months (3000 a year) but that’s absolutely fine with me as will only be pottering about locally when I do get one. I’ll save the big road trips and rallies for when I get more confidence

Did DVSA give you a reason you can't use the Moggy for your test?

Slap on a stick-on suction-cup mirror and I see nothing against the Minor, provided it's a later model so as to get above 62mph
Interestingly enough, the above lists the car I did take my test in as having a known recall out now for airbag safety

I was wondering if the seat belts for the examiner have to be inertia-reel or not as my car (a 1964 Morris Minor) has seatbelts but they are not inertia-reels.
Also by design it has no head restraints so if I were to fit an aftermarket seat (these are designed for the car but have proper head restraints) on just the front passenger side of the car would this then qualify as being okay for the examiner?
The car passes every other test criteria but I thought it best to ask about these two.

Hmm I’ll double confirm about the test but the chap advised me that as long as the car meets certain safety requirements, one of which being headrests on the seats, it’s fine for a test. I said that a MM in all likelihood will not have headrests on the seats and he replied that it would not be suitable for a test.
If the car does come before the test though, I will definitely confirm this!

Regardless of what the DVSA say, an individual examiner might not be happy to be in a car with fixed seatbelts, no headrests and (not mentioned yet?) no airbags. And bear in mind, he'd be in a car with a learner; so in a more hazardous environment than most front seat passengers.
And I don't think the centre will allot an examiner till you arrive. So you might have to confirm that their entire panel are happy with the car; difficult.

Very good point. I’d hate to turn up on the day and the examiner is like “I’m not getting in that!”
On the other hand if they are of an older generation they might be excited to see a mog because chances are, they passed in one!
I will see what comes first, the test or the car… right now I feel like it’s more likely to be the car with the wait times for tests
