When you tighten the nut you hold the top plastic handle so that the adjusting screw does not move. There may be clicks but as long as the screw does not move as you move the metal handle clockwise to tighten the nut, there is no loss of adjustment. It is exactly the same in this regard as if you were tightening the nut with a ring spanner whilst preventing the screw from moving with a screwdriver.

Tried the new to me tool today and it worked as it should, loud click without compressing valve spring, then adjust.

And I didn't have to make any adjustments to the tool, just valve clearances

Well I’ve not tried one of these tools so maybe I shouldn’t criticise too much, it’s just reading this thread makes me content to stick to a feeler gauge.

Mine, with both 7/16 and 1/2 sockets and " adjustment schedule " , find the larger knob easier / more precise?
