Inner wing and bulkhead corner repair

That’s roughly takes this up to date for now. Outstanding items for welding-

O/S windscreen aperture corner repair
O/S inner wing
A posts / door pillars both sides
Front wheel arch repairs

Overall it’s been relatively enjoyable so far. Lots and lots of repairs have been made to the shell, however anything that is salvageable has been kept, even the bent crossmember. It keeps the character of the car at its core. It will never be a concourse restoration because of this, we want to use and enjoy the car to the fullest.

On more positive news, the original doors and wings are virtually rust free, so we will save a lot of time there

excellent project and some very clear illustrative images too, this is one to keep an eye on. I'm glad you're keeping all the bit's n pieces, I stupidly threw away the original floors of Alice before realising ESM didn't supply the four seat fixed nuts underneath the floor. I had to search local scrapyards for an old scrap Moggie to recover them from. They welded on with a big sigh of relief. Plus keeping removed portions helps later on with how things go together. Hope having a deadline isn't going to get you stressed. Love that little Moggie with the Bow tie.

The replacement floors didn’t come with mountings or even punched holes for seatbelt mounts however. They had to be swapped over

Last little bit to add here for the time being. I’ve shown the repair to the bottom of the window aperture, but here is the repair to the top. Thankfully all this needed was a new lip flange welding on which made things easier.

Obviously these both need replication on the other side when I rotate the shell round.

Very impressive work. Same year as my convertible. RT is an East Suffolk suffix.

Oh that’s very interesting!. It’s staying at home then. I would love to find out more about its past life. The gent we purchased it from told us it was owned by his father, and the V5 shows 3 previous owners.

For just £5 you can request a list of all previous owners and where they lived using a DVLA V888 form. You also get photocopies of all the previous logbooks, including the old brown one. Very good, as time goes by, even more parts are being made available, you couldn't get those in 2009 when I re-built Alice. Making them was too difficult at the time, my welding skill have come on in leaps and bounds since so I'd simply make what I don't have. But back then....

what is it about Cats and workshops, my George would spend all night Keeping My Metal Moggy Company, if we let him. I must put a catflap in the door so he can come and go.

I was amused that "Maggie" is occasionally known by offensive names. This is also true of my poor "Xavier". The things I have called that old car should never be repeated. It only happens when he's particularly spiteful and belligerent and draws blood. It's at those times that I threaten to leave him in the garage, never to run again, for all eternity. He generally cooperates after that kind of telling off.

What you'll get, and it may take some time, is copies of whatever records DVLA have, with names and address redacted, apart from the town or possibly just County, depending on the whim of who's doing the redacting.
The copies I was sent are principally just the Change of Details page that was sent to them at each change. You can't tell what's a change of Keeper and what's just someone moving house.

My first application was rejected by some pratt who didn't read the completed form correctly, sending me a 'Not Entitled Blag Blah' covering letter.
I sent it off again with a covering letter rebutting their rejection; and this time it 'never arrived'.
After some email traffic, I sent another one personally addressed to the specific officer I had been emailing. It also never arrived ....
As we were in email correspondence, she said she would just do it for me anyway.
Neither of the 2 cheques I had sent were ever presented for payment.

So my car is a 1955, originally a PKV plate, Coventry.
Earliest Log Book they had was 1966, 'Lincoln' showing as the address, but the Date stamps on the Log book for paying the Road Duty every 6 months read NOTTS C.C. so perhaps living very near the county border with Notts.
The next one was a DVLC issued one in 1978 (DVLC took over in 1974)
After that it's chronologically complete.
Number plate transfer in 1991 and given AFE996A. Still in Lincoln(shire).
During the 1990s moved to Braknell, oddly, the Change of Details has a New Keeper date acquired of July 93, but the Declaration date is March 94.
Then Portsmouth and Berkshire, back to Lincolnshire when an Age Related Plate was successfully obtained in 1999.
Some movement around Lincolnshire, whether change of keeper or just moving, who knows.
2010 off to Birmingham, then Hull in 2011, before I moved him to Leicestershire in 2017.

One final thing to illustrate how useless DVLA are, they redacted all the copies they enclosed.....
Their covering letter, stating that it was all the records they held, and that due to DPA regulations names & address had been withheld, included a typed list of the Last 5 Keepers starting with mine.
It then goes down the page each entry giving
Keeper Number
Date Acquired
Date of Disposal
Name (Left Blank)
Address (Just the postal town)

Except the bottom one they didn't give the date of Disposal, but did put the Keepers name ....

Ahh yes, the old GDPR.

Anything, however, is better than the nothing we have at the moment.

It did around 60,000 miles in the 22 years it existed on the roads. I can only imagine the life it had.

The N/S A-post has now been fully welded in.

I’m honestly astonished with the door fit, considering how much has been cut out and replaced. It goes to show how important welding in braces and taking many measurements is.

There’s a little bit of fettling to do with the wing fitment, and the bottom of the B-pillar, But we are very nearly finished with the welding on the complete left hand side of the car.

Well I received a full unredacted list of names and addresses of all previous owners for my '68 Traveller. I think it depends on what you say you want the information for and how you would use it. I said I just wanted to build a history file for my own personal use and that I would not ever share any of the data they send me.
