Mine's probably about the same, and I know that when it's pulled all the way out (ooh-err!) the valve is as closed as it is when it's not attached to the cable. There is full movement, but my guess is that the valve has been mis-manufactured.

Where can I find Cam's link?

Thanks

I assume Colin's referring to the engine bay pictures that are on the website.

Only just had the chance to check; it seems as though my heater pipes have been connected the wrong way round; the upper pipe connected to the heater valve. From the several pictures I've seen, they are connected the other way round. Would this account for the valve not working? I'll switch them over tonight and let you know tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Shouldn't really make any difference - unless there is fantastic pressure forcing the valve open. I always keep the valve open to allow water to circulate round the back end of the head. If it's too hot in the car - swivel the quarter lights round to scoop in some air - can't do that in a modern car !! It's my 'climate control' system.

That will have absolutely no influence on the heater valve.

The verdict; it worked! I switched the hoses over last night and it seems to have worked. Maybe when the hoses are the wrong way round there is enough pressure in the system to force the valve open a small amount. It must make a difference - why else would every picture I see of a Minor engine shows the hoses connected in the same way?
