Thank you all for your help so far. I've created a rebuild thread further down and would really appreciate the moral support which all you lovely people seem to give.

The steering wheel looks similar to that fitted to the Austin 1300GT.

It also gets you onto the 'Minorparts of Oxford' site, a supplier that I quite rate, not too expensive and they can usually source what you want.
Of course it always pays to shop around, I buy wherever I find the best deal.
Below is a link to the type of centre you would have had in your car, I believe the horn push would be on a side stalk in 1957:

With the centre you may be able to get one cheaper than this, so I include this just so you can see what you are looking for, if you wish to reinstate it as it was.
