All good coils will have a +ve and -ve indication embossed beside the connectors. One simply need to connect them with the feed lead with the more positive (less negative) connection - just look at the battery orientation - to the terminal marked +ve.

Positive earth system - the earth is most positive coil connection.
Negative earth system - the live side is more positive coil connection.
