Thanks for the help, I have purchased the duplex kit Phil and countersunk the screws ready to fit. I guess as long as there's no clash when the timings set all will be ok, thanks again matt

That tells me something. Were they marked before you dismantled it, or did you mark them?

Putting the chain on with the crank and cam in the right relationship is a good suggestion. Guess that’s why it’s called ‘timing’ ——- by the time the big end goes by the nearest cam lobe the peak is out of the way. Hopefully!

This happened when I turned the crank while re-built my 1275 Mini engine but once the timing gear was on all was fine.

Timing chain fitted and I’ve turned the engine over a few times, all seems well. Do the timing marks look correct?

If the timing marks are in a line through the crankshaft and camshaft centres the timing marks are correct as yours appear to be.

Did you align the teeth of the crankshaft sprocket with the teeth of the camshaft sprocket?

The alignment is corrected by adding or subtracting the shim washers located behind the crankshaft sprocket.

Yes had to add 3 shims Phil to line the faces up on the the new sprockets, the original ones didn't need any. I'll double check the marks are good through centres of the sprockets before I bolt them down. I need to fit a new crank pulley as the old ones is fairly scored where the oil seal sits!

Glad to hear that it is all working out well.
If possible I would fit a damper pulley not the standard 1098cc Minor crankshaft pulley.
