I've made some more good progress now. I've painted the floor with POR15 and added a fair amount of sound deadening. it's certainly reduced the ring in the panels a lot and the doors sound very solid. Hopefully I'll have finished all the sound deadening tomorrow and I can move onto adding the closed cell foam.

I have one of the quietest 1098 travellers on the planet - so I am told by other Moggie owners who ride in it from time to time.
Firstly it's in vgc, mechanically and bodywork. Tyres correctly inflated.
Secondly I have underlay under the carpets and in the spare wheel compartment.
Thirdly I have sound insulation under the glove boxes and under the bonnet.
Fourthly my trav was in the Waxoyl adverts and is still waxoyled.
Fifthly, my dog guard doesn't rattle and the dogs don't whinge.
Sixthly, the spares by the spare wheel are neatly packed, as is my back seat if fully loaded.
Lastly, it ain't ever going to be as quiet as a moden car!

That's me and my car! A couple of years and a respray and lots of work and miles later, and I can confirm that all the SilentCoat is still in place and doing it's job. Since I put up that thread, I also added a big under bonnet foam sound deadening sheet (it was about £25 delivered off ebay). That made a pleasant difference to everything too. Doing any sound deadening makes such a nice difference to the car!

Thanks for all your help! I'm now almost finished. I've completed the silentcoat and added closed cell foam on top all over the bulkhead and inside the glove boxes, all over the floor, under the boot floor and under the back seat. I removed the staples and pulled back the front headlining and part of the rear so I could add some under there, it ended up not being very difficult. It turns out that mine didn't have any bitumen sheet on the roof which might explain why it was so resonant! I've put most of it back together now too. I've replaced the dodgy wood too.
The window runners are turning out to the the most difficult part. Firstly, the amount supplied 'per side' by ESM is not enough to do the side so I'm going to have to order more. It's also proving very tricky to get in and the windows are very stiff (which might not be a bad thing). The other problem is that I've replaced the rubber seal on the rear glass and now the catch doesn't quite line up with the hole. I did drill drainage holes though and filled them with wood preserver as suggested. I also drilled holes from the inner groove to meet up with the main holes. Hopefully I can get the runners all back together eventually!
I've driven it round the block and it's definitely made a difference, even with the rear windows missing! All the rattles are gone and I can barely hear the engine or the gearbox. It also seems more 'solid' as others have experienced. I can still hear the exhaust roaring so I may have to look into getting a quieter system if it's still loud with the windows back in.
Once it's all back together I just need to do the steering rack gaiter, temperature gauge and cigarette lighter socket. I'm also getting a new set of tyres (cue 145 vs 155 discussion

Apart from a couple of little bits, I've got everything back together now. The second side of window runners went in much more easily than the first and the windows, although a bit stiff, do slide open and closed. I've also changed the oil the the engine, gearbox and rear axle and have put a can of STP in each (it was fun getting it into the diff!) I also greased everything. I think the car is quieter, it feels a bit more solid and most of the rattles are gone. It's still very loud though and the overall difference is very minimal. The noise seems to be dominated by the exhaust so I may fit a twin box system if I don't get used to it. It's annoying because my old exhaust wasn't anywhere near as loud. Even when it fell off, leaving about six inches of pipe after the silencer, it was quieter! I've still got the rack gaiter to do and it needs a new set of tyres and a good check over everything, then it should be ready for the 1600 mile drive ahead of it
