If you do go for an alternator, exercise caution over which brand you buy. There have been a lot of reported failures of many that are available these days, and the cheaper ones most definitely are not more reliable than a dynamo. I'm sure good quality ones are fine.

Id advise you to see how you get on with the dynamo. If you keep getting a flat battery then look into an alternator. Iv been using mine for lots of short journeys albeit in the summer and have never had to charge my battery. Mine will be staying as a dynamo. Unless i make serious modifications to the electrics.

Well, personally, if the dynamo is 'working fine' as you say, I too would leave it. I currently have a dynamo and, in the past, had cars with dynamos and alternators. I have had failures with both at times, so neither are infallable. But, unless you want to load your car up with all sorts of new-fangled electrical gadgets, a dynamo should be just dandy for a Minor
