That's annoying then! But hopefully you'll get another tank no problem. I'd be tempted to try and put another entry in from the top. But it won't be straight forward and you can't really drill a tank.

Thanks for that.
I'm now getting fuel seep out when I start to undo the pipe between the tank and the pump, but still no fuel coming out of the pump, though I can feel air being blown out so it seems the pump is working. I just loosened the pipe connection but when I saw fuel coming out, I tightened it again. I might try pressurising the tank again. I have now put 3 gallons of fuel in the tank.

Might be better if you could put pressure the other way and blow back into the tank.

Okay, I'll try both ways, do you mean pressurise back from the pump to the tank to try and clear any debris that may be in the dip pipe?
It looks as though we do have a dip pipe, I thought it was detachable and attached to the pump/tank pipe.

Hooray, that worked. My daughter suggested we use her old fish tank cleaning kit and that had just the right diameter to create a good seal around the tank filler pipe. We then pressurised the tank nad hey presto, fuel through the pump.
ENGINE NOW RUNS!!!!!!
Huge milestone in my kid's project.
Once again thanks for all the splendid advice from you guys.

Well done

Sorry I did't reply earlier, been a bit busy

And yes blow back from the pump suction, might be worth doing anyway just to make sure it's completely clear - with the fuel filler cap off
