update all - i ended up buying a new rad as the old one was in fairly poor shape and i'm not in the market for the repair to fail and it leaking all over the shop on a long journey. The garage put the new one in for free (the least they could do!) and fit the new crankshaft pulley and diff seal that i bought too. not a bad result in the end - new rad looks spiffy! :D

We used to use 'plastic padding' to successfully patch small leaky areas on
radiator tubes. OK for over-cooled engines but needs more careful consideration if cooling is marginal. Possibly better choices of material these days.

Nowt wrong with a bit of chicken wire. Mind you, I believe it has to be stainless steel chicken wire for Concours :)

Can you still use screwed up newspaper or has that been banned now only to be used for recycling :roll: :lol:
