The Marina box is not the Minor box !! Maybe be better to follow the route Minis have gone - and fit Rover K series engine, or Vauxhall Astra or Honda v-tec engine. The K series is popular in Kit cars - so there must be good in-line gearboxes for it.

Yes, the Sierra 5-speed type 9 'box is a popular one for the Minor (I have one).
Alec, yes of course the 1275 Marina needs certain BOLT ON parts and I agree this does need stating for completeness. However I meant that there is no cutting and welding needed for fitmment and it's all spanner work which is what Terry wants.

just to make the point that you need to buy certain parts to fit a 1275
Cam never specified 'marina'. My van had a 1275 Midget engine fitted without buying special parts (using the frontplate from the old 1098 engine and keeping the less than ideal midget clutch).
as a 1275 Marina engine and gearbox is not a 'slot in job'
very true - unless you slot the gearbox in the bin (best thing for it really) and use a midget 1275 gearbox (or do it properly using a ford type 9 box however that involves expensive special parts)

Hello Ray,
yes I know that, but for the sake of brevity I went to the most likely available combination at a reasonable price. By the way, I don't know why the Marina box gets slated, it's not a bad one and gets rid of the lack of synchromesh on first.

somebody has slotted the marina 1275 gearbox into my car which is why i assumed that the 1800 would fit easily
