How would I recreate this? Only the bottom brackets at either ends come as panels. Would all the metal have to be formed from sheets?[frame]

I'm surprised the whole section isn't available, even in separate pieces, but I guess with out seeing the whole picture it's difficult to give a proper assessment of the car.

The estimate is based on their being "patch on patch which looks sound from outside", the dodgy patch, welding wire sicking out and the box sections appearing suspect, rather than anything that crumbles when prodded. Even seeing the car, they can't give an estimate. They'd want to dismantle the box sections and cut off anywhere with patches.

If your going for a resto including replacing the wood then that's the way to go, but get more than one estimate. You may have to travel but you could save a lot of money but beware of cowboys

Nevermind, I think I found it:
Rear Lower Outer Panel (Traveller) Under Rear Doors. UK MADE BY ESM
The wood is off, and new wood is being picked up soon. £3,000 seems reasonable then?

I really couldn't say as I've never paid anyone to work on my cars except for MOT's. Hopefully it will be a top end estimate taking into account what they expect to find and there wont be any extras thrown in at the end. Make sure you make regular trips to check on progress and show annoyingly enthusiastic interest and have them explain each step.
