All right, they are handy though, and most parts are still available. It's the other side of the spectrum when it comes to the design, more straight lines etc. We are wondering off topic I guess

One shouldn't ever change to first gear unless standing complete still
and why not? whats wrong with double de clutching?

Because of the strain it puts on the clutch and box when you let the clutch out again on the move - less in higher gears - assuming you're letting the clutch out again while still moving.

if you get the engine speen right it will be going at the right revs and there won't be any extra stress on the clutch/box surely....

Cant you just buy a morris conversion kit or something that allows you to hvae a synchromesh on first.
Yup its called a 5 speed Sierra conversion and costs quite a few quid.
