You said you changed the cap - same leads/same order?

When changing the cap I did the leads one at a time so should be correct but will double check tomorrow. Re pipe from breather - I have a little brass pipe which I don't have connected to anything - never have had

Brass pipe on side of carb? It should be connected to the rocker cover breather pipe -to suck away fumes. But I don't think it will be anything to do with the current problem.. Plug it anyway, meantime !

well you've got a spark and fuel at the plugs(After pouring petrol in) and plugs in correct order then it should fire.unless timing is out. Take oil filler cap off and turn engine back and forwards(Take plugs out to help)and when you see the valves on one rocking Ie one going up at the same time as the other going down. Then the engine is on firing stroke on four, check that the rotor is pointing at no four teminal in the cap,and that you get a spark from that plug.See what that brings.

When the number 1 valves are going up and down the rotor arm points to number 3 terminal, not number 4.

To prove the ignition module the only way to test it is by replacing it. Do you have a set of points and a condensor to put in?

No wonder it won't start! But how did it get like that - you told us the timing hadn't been touched.. Move the leads round - the one it's pointing to IS # 4 plug. Then 4213 anticlockwise round the cap....

That is what we're wondering as nothing has been touched previous. The last work done to her was wiring in some spot lamps and changed the dynamo for an alternator

I do have to ask though - how did you see #1 valves going up and down? Looking through the oil filler will show you # 2 - and in that case, rotor pointing to #3 is correct. So - have you really seen #1 valves rocking at TDC ?

We have lift off - many thanks for all the help and advice. We think possibly old distributer cap was the fault and then when Steve replaced leads didn't do them in right order? Anyway - we will see how she behaves over the next few days. Once again thankyou
