I have read that when developers were writing the code in windows 95 and 98 they shortened the search to the number 9 when they were developing the code for each OS. In those days there were only two versions with the number 9 in it so it made sense.
But I have also read that the reason to go straight to 10 is to try and market there new OS better as Windows 8 got such bad press.
I think that Microsoft as a company wants to make a decent profit It's naming convention is down to marketing reasons. :D

I am still looking for a good reason to buy a new PC with windows 8 and I work in the IT industry. I waited for 7 before moving from XP and am waiting for Windows 10 before moving from 7

Your wife is correct!!! I went Apple 13 years ago and haven't looked back since, no viruses, no issues, no spyware.

More expensive yes, but the quality of hard and software is worth it. Stress free computing!

Just because you have a Mac does not make you immune to viruses and malware.
If everyone who uses a PC or a Mac used a common sense approach instead of blindly clicking next or following hyperlinks in spam emails the web would be a safer place.
Wherever there are vulnerabilitys there is always some unscrupulous people ready to exploit them.

Window's bah, use Linux like me. Used it for around five years now and never had a virus or any other attack. It's completely different to windows so any malicious code written that attacks windows cannot work on it, oh and it's free too you just have to get used to using it like you did when you learnt how to use windows :D :D :D
