Of course - because it has a slight effect on the idling. But you are making it all more complicated than it really is.....at the end of the day - it's a matter of personal judgement when you have the best combination of smooth idle, and performance - without of course any sign of 'pinking'.

It certainly has, my fuel gauge works backwards

That's odd, it shouldn't do when swapped over to neg earth
The two wires on the coil should have been swapped over as well, someone recently had a problem fitting an electronic dizzy when it wouldn't start - because the wires hadn't been swapped when the polarity was reversed.

It's been like it since I've owned her, it is strange. How many wires go to the sender, one I believe. So not sure how to correct it.

Must have been changed at the gauge for some reason. Did you see my edit of my last post, check the LT wires on the coil.

Yours is a gold speedo model, and as such have an unstabilised feed unlike later models with a black speedo. They are a lot more sensitive that the later ones.

When you say sensitive, you mean to the polarity change?

Just read it, you would have thought if them wires was on the wrong way, something wouldn't work?

No, more sensitive to voltage change, being unregulated.
It may be that you have to swap the terminals on the back of the gauge. I can't remember now from converting mine, someone will be along soon to say.

Apparently not with 'normal' ignition parts but it did affect that particular posters car when he fitted the electronic dizzy. Give us a minute and I'll go and check mine - I definitely swapped them over when I reversed the polarity.

OK the wire with the black stripe is on the coil negative terminal.

You need to swap the connections on the back of the gauge.... And yes the COIL wires (not dizzy...) are also to be swapped when changing to -ve earth..
