That's not possible unless I drill holes in the inner wing, which I'm a bit reluctant to do.

The bump stop mounting bolts are a good mounting points but as their are located right under the damper the coil can only be mounted head-down there.

I've taped the rubber cover and the lead to the coil. It's a bit ugly but it will do to stop the lead from falling off.

I did manage to mount the coil slightly nose up as the washer bottle is in the way, I slid the coil through the mounting bracket a bit to get it in. I'll see if I can post a picture later.

Drill new holes and do it properly. Put a dab of paint on the holes. Some coils are not filled to the brim with oil and should be mounted upright to make sure they are properly cooled.

Here's how I mounted the coil. It's just hanging on one of the rebound stop bolts for now.

What is best: head up like Theo's or horizontally as originally fitted on the dynamo?

If I am to drill holes I might as well fit it horizontally if it's better for any oil within.

It doesn't matter for operation but I'll be mounting mine vertical when I get round to re-positioning it.

It didn't matter with good old original coils - it's the 'modern' coils that sometimes seem to have oil filling worries.

I altered the original dynamo coil mount to fit on the inner wing.

It just so happens the elephants trunk is about the same diameter as the dynamo

One side of the bracket was the perfect length and about an inch or so to cut off the other end :)
The king lead could do with being a tad longer to look neater but the original isn't stretched.

That's one way - but the weight of the coil will now be bobbing up and down on the extended legs of the bracket.... Don't be surprised if the bolts work loose - and perhaps in time cracks appear on the inner wing where the bracket attaches...

I thought it might be a bit weak but its quite rigid, I'll put some penny washers under the bolt heads just to be safe.

All done! She runs a lot more happily with her new alternator. Looks like she's getting better sparks.

After mounting the kit I noticed that a clip was left in the box. To give you an idea of the size it's been photographed on a business card:

Excellent on getting it sorted :D Funny you should mention about the car running better I noticed a difference as well, wonder if it's the car goes better with a good stereo type phenomenon.

Ok I found where the clip goes, though it doesn't seem to fit as intended: there is a 5 mm gap between the clip and the slot on the connector where it's meant to catch.

It's a non-standard connector. If your volts were a bit low before, then sparks may have been weak.....but more likely it's just in the mind......
