What's the point of having an oil pressure guage for example?
:D We add loads of dials and gauges because we can.

CHRIS....point taken but the trouble with the Minors' warning lamps
are that they are in the centre of the car,not in the drivers line of
sight. On a bright day The engine would probably be wrecked before
you ever noticed the warning light, same with the charging light.
This certainly applies to the convertible when the hood is lowered.
Best mod I did on my saloon was to duplicate the warning lights
so that they were directly in front of me visible through the steering
wheel.

My brother managed to wreck an engine (not a Minor) by running out of oil on a motorway and his day was brightened no end to see the orange light come on after the engine had siezed (noisily) and he'd declutched to coast onto the hard shoulder...

Mind you on my first car (an Escort) if I'd forgotten to top it up at the weekend it would remind me within a couple of days via the oil pressure light when cornering!

Same with the Citroen - I tried to convince myself it was down to 'spirited cornering' and the need for a sump baffle or something, but no, it just leaked like a schoolkid in a public swimming pool...
