bmcecosse wrote:Well - the meter seems ok, but it seems to me the alternator is running a bit on the low side - it should be 13.8/14 volts when running at decent revs - and pretty well holding at least 13.8 with headlights on. Is the belt tight enough - not slipping?
Hmmm yeah it's a bit of a head scratcher and hmmm possibly and yep there's no slipping I'm going to maybe go into my college soon and ask if I can do some tests on the battery and see If that's the problem as I just have that gut feeling it could be

Battery volts are fine when the engine is not running... I assume it cranks the engine well enough first thing in the morning? If so -can't see that being the problem. It does appear that the alternator is not working as it should be.......

Hmmm yeah well it does start yes we were having issues with the battery whilst on the dynamo
The whole kit was from ESM so should I maybe give them a call or what :S to be honest...... The can and pulpy was already fitted on the alternator when I got it and had a fair few scratches and marks and paint chips over it and had a slight thought it may have been sent back because of an issue with it

You may have hit the nail on the head. When I had my computer business I had a large amount of parts from one supplier that were DOA.It turned out that to save employing a techie to test returns they were sending them out to other buyers. If they also reported a fault they knew the part was faulty and not just user error.Needless to say I binned them.

I believe we have recently seen a number of people reporting faulty alternators - and sending them back.. If it was mine - it WOULD be going right back. You've wired it up correctly - it's not working as it should. In fact - tell them to send another GUARANTEED TO BE WORKING - and a return label for you to send back the faulty one at NO cost to you.

Hmmmm well I think I'm gunna have to but does that mean I'm going to have to take the loom and brackets out aswell? or would they just send a new alt

Just an absolute joke .... I went with ESM as well i trust them and people say there conversions and great and simple...... And you kinda expect when spending over £60 excluding the VAT on one item you would get one working

Ask them just to send a TESTED WORKING alternator for you to swap in.....and then you send back the faulty unit on their return label. Don't hesitate to mention the apparent poor performance of their alternator is being discussed on the MMOC forum!
