I too have the same problem and have purchased a tube of black acrylic latex exterior caulk. It will cure and remain flexible and should not shrink away from the glass. I also plan to use it on the gaps in the wood on my Traveller as they are 1/8" in some places and the area where the corner posts meet the side panels has dried out.

I use Tigerseal quite a lot, sealing windscreens and seams etc - I used a thin bead when I put the sliding window channels back in between the channel and waist rail (previous owner had used silicone and I couldn't get Dum Dum quickly). Sticks very well and seals a treat so should do well on your rear door glass, any excess wipes off with white spirit.

Thanks for the advice. The thing that was most readily available was the Dow Corning, so I bought that.
It's not really part of the thread, buy Screwfix is selling Danish oil with a UV blocker - Liberon Superior. My local store didn't have any of that instock, so I picked up some Ronseal Danish instead. Also they had own-brand yacht varnish so I picked that up.
Now to decide whether to varnish or oil.

you want to usean equivalent to dum dum (no longer made) -- the best replacement is this:
